Alright, here is an idea and it is out there a little bit but here we go. Obviously nobody is going to agree that the Mini stocks are a begginers or a low budget class. Now I personally enjoyed watching the class when it was a mid 18 second class. We had lots of cars and good close racing.
Anyway what about taking and making a class for 4cyl cars that look like modifieds and make these race cars. Put the racing clutch in put on the Hoosier tires, put on a header and spec carb. Racing shocks and springs.. and whatever else you can think of.
Then take the mini or pony stock and bring it back to a stock class. Bring back an engine claim rule on these cars. Make this a cheap and affordable class for people getting into racing.. or people with kids who want to get thier kids into racing.
I know this is harder than it sounds since there isn't a track in the area who can keep the same rules from year to year. This idea would take some commitment from a track owner to build the car counts in both classes.
I would be interested to hear from some fo the guys that have run up front consistently in the last few years... Would you be interested in moving up to a class like this and leaving an affordalbe class for the begginers?

People are probably getting tired of hearing from me,but here goes.I agree completely and absolutely with you,BUT,how about just opening up the present minis wide open and starting a fwd hornet class? Dadwithadaughter and I suggested it to Wes and he was checking on insurance and possible rules.I have also talked to another guy that would build two, I would back off and put my son in that class instead of the ministock,so you already have four possible cars. And that way the guys with the great minis wouldn't have to start over.
That's all I have been saying right along,a low price entry level class,as some of the other tracks say:
"cars that we race, not race cars"

I have never seen a FWD show that I have been impressed with yet. Not to say that couldn't change.. but I just haven't seen a show running FWD that was any good. But the 18 and 19 second mini's were a good show.
They should also cap you at two championships in the mini's and then force you to move up a class.

I agree with everything thoughts, ideas thts been posted. I feel there is a need for a Cheap / Stock class. Then a next stepping stone class, then on to street stock or mods and so on. But the only issue I see right now is timing adding to or changing to any current rules or class.
Maybe the simple way if we really think that there needs to be a cheaper class besides the current mini's is to do what the mods did years ago and have a A and B CLass. A being slightly more open the current rules and the B being slightly lest the current rules.
But the only issue I see with this is still going to be car count for each divison. I personnel feel we as racers have to work with the tracks to put together a set of works that work for the majority of the racers. Then stick with them for several year. This will help build car count and this would also save us from having to buy something one year then the next set it on the shelf and buy something else..
With several tracks having different rule makes it hard to race at other tracks and hard for possible future racers to buy or build car to come race with us.
Lets face it racing is become a Rich man's sport and it's coming down to if you can or can't afford it. So lets work together with Wes and the track to keep racing around for yerars to come.

I have to disagree with the statement that racing is a rich mans sport.Yes it's true the minis are no longer a budget class, but I think the racers made it that way,and another mini class would probably not be the way to go.
The mustangs are getting scarcer, and the pintos are almost nonexistant. But there are a blue million Neons, cavaliers, hondas, escorts, and kias that could be had for next to nothing,my neighbor gave a running escort away because it needed a transmission, these aren't popular minis because the parts influx has been concentrated on the 2.3 ford engines.
I think the key would be stock, stock, stock,no upgrades, most tracks even make these cars have working radios, horns and third brake lights, and start with a key in the column.
I agree heartily about supporting Wes,let's get anything out there we can to support him,50 tracks closed in the last 2 years nationwide, let's not let it happen here.

| I agree with the earlier post that I am not impressed with the fwd classes that I have watched. Plymouth has such a class, and I do not think they are entertaining. I also agree that mustang chassis are harder to come by now, but there are plenty of trucks out there. S10s, Rangers, and Dakota's are out there waiting for a second life. The fans would even have a variety of makes to root for instead of the same car raced by everyone. Start out with simple rules and go. I think these would be a better way to go than fwd. Just my opinion!

| I agree that the FWD classes aren't fun to watch at all. Most of the problems down at Baerfield were caused by fwd drivers and people taking that class way too seriously. Unfortuneally, I think there is no way you're going to start a class that's going to be cheap. You'll always have people finding some way to get around the rules and put a lot of money into the car and dominate. Just my opinion
