The Angola Motor Speedway is currently working on preserving the history of local racing at Angola. With the support of many people we were able to have our first meeting with the newly named "Board Members" on Thursday January 31, 2008. We welcome Hank Lower, Randy Palmerton, Tony Smith and Van Smith as the "Board". With their help we hope to gather past information as to who the former inductees were and when. Our goal is to work to revive the past and to look to the present and future of the sport! We have already scheduled our next meeting and hope to get the support of anyone that may have information.
If you have any information on who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the past please contact one of the above or the speedway office as soon as possible! Lets all work together to revive the past!
Again thank you to the above volunteers as well as Jerry Ladd, Kevin Allgire, Weo, Mike Houser Sr. and Mike Houser Jr. for assisting in this good cause!

| I know Denny Engler was inducted.My uncle was in Dean Best's pit crew for years and he will more than likely know a few more.Denny lives in Florida in the winter so if you would need to talk to him I could get in contact with his brother Byron who could also be in the hall.If I get more info from my uncle and other former drivers I see or know I would be glad to do some of the leg work for you.This kinda work is more fun then the regular 40hr job.

Any work that you would like to put into this would be appreciated! This is a way to preserve the history of Angola!
Please make sure to get dates so that we can check the information that we get.

Wes ,
Just a thought. Some of of the legends don't use the computer but still read local racing magazines.Maybe you could put something in that looking for info on former Angola racers and have them reply to you on their status and mention about the hall of fame and they may tell you about drivers we have forgot and other stories.
Just trying to help!!!!!

It's been a while since I had my hands on a copy, is the MARC Times still in publication? I went to their website and it hasn't been updated since last June.

| Went to marc times website and sent an email.Waitng for a reply.I seen the Spartan Speedway website and they act like Marc Times Is still around.Hope so.I'll update U as soon as I am updated.Just tryin to get the ball rollin.

Yes the Marc Times is still around although they are not in very good health and having some money issues from the sound of it.
I plan to advertise the Hall of Fame and the fact of getting some past information during the season very hard. I think once the season starts people will start to lend a hand even more.

| Got a reply from Marc Times.They said they could do an ad or maybe just a pr thing for the speedway.The contact person is Carmen Thrasher at 269-345-7086.Hope this will help!!!

| Maybe u could post it at that at the front gate and the consession stands and announce it over the p.a.U could maybe have some sheets for people to take home and they could contact people they think or is in hall.I know of 3 people who would know a few including them,but there in florida and i have no phone numbers to contact them.I will see them next month more than likley,Just trying to give cheap ideas.

| Wes,some good news.I just talked to Denny Engler and he said he was inducted to the hall of fame in 1990.He thought Bob Psurny and Gary Lehman were in too.Denny was really happy about that and had to look at the plaque to see what year.He said his brother Byron should be there,but he isn't.For anyone who knows Denny he is a special guy.He was in a terrible motorcycle wreck and expected to not make it.It was bad,but after years of struggles he is still going.His memory is not as good,but if u got hit buy a car and thrown 300ft.off a bike he does great.He is proud to be a member at Angola speedway hall of fame.Wes,I'll work with Lamar and see if we can get more info on other drivers to u.Just getting started and hopefully we can get this done in a short time.

I know for sure Bob is in the hall I was there the night he got in I was seated a couple rows above him and his wife they both had on the old red racing jackets with that small no# 23 in the middle of their back now Gary I can't remember but could ask his son Jeff whom I coached in baseball.
