You can beat me up on this all you want, but I did what I hope will help bring in cars. Yes those 10-12 regulars will be upset but I woud bet that most of them will understand why I made this decision. It has been proven that the racing clutch doesn't always win the race! I personally don't think that you have to go out and spend the money for a racing clutch but if you think you do MY BET would be that you would have spent that money on something else on the car anyway!

Keep firing away!!!!!

Wes

not offended here.. i have been in your situation once too!! the goal is to have fun.. my first couple of years i was one of the slowest cars on the track.. and i had about 2000 in my first racecar.. but i stuck with it and went into it as knowing if i had a car capable of say 8th place my goal was to try to finish around 8th.. i had alot of fun racing door to door with the cars that were about my speed.. we didn't really care if we were battling for 18th place.. the goal was to run my race and getting faster would come with time and learning from my mistakes... which i still have from time to time

I will agree with Jellybean. This is my first year going to race a mini. My brother and father have been racing a few years now and keep getting faster as the years have gone by. I do not have any notions of running up front this year, but in time and God willing I will. Get out there and learn and have fun. Very few people I know have the budget to jump into it full force when they start out. Start out with spending your money on the handling of the car. As you get seat time, and can afford it, put a little money into the motor. Everyone has to start at the bottom and work there way up from there. Wes... are racing tires going to be allowed at the outlaw race and the other mini specials???

The tire issue and other outlaw rules will be released at a later date. It is something that will be discussed with our regulars once the season gets started.

Thanks
Wes

I want everyone to know that i weigh 2550 with me in the car, i offered to take a weight penalty for the racing clutch, its not all about buying a racing clutch its what i have, and a lot of others also have. The racing clutch doesnt mean you are or arent going to win. I also want everyone to know you can build your own motors. I only have about 3500.00 in my motor. I know you can build a great motor for that price its a 2.3 not a 2.5 . I know there are people saying i have a lot of money in my motor and i dont. I do know people that bought motors from esslinger and they did pay about 7000 for it, but it also has got beat too. The economy has a lot to do with the car counts being down, if i didnt have a great job i wouldnt be able to race either.

Racer 7, you are only wanting to be legal with what you have, but in reality since they have now allowed racing clutches, the faster cars now, that do not run racing clutches will be able to buy them and go faster! It is one of those things that really sucks when the rules won't allow you to be legal with all the current parts you run but you either run with the current rules, don't run, or lobby until they have to change the rules and then deal with upset customers! I think everyone has now seen the verdict!!
That is also as I said earlier! Change can be good or bad! It is how YOU choose to DEAL WITH IT that will make or break you! If the #70 runs one in '08, let me say congrats on another new track record!!! Again only my thoughts! J

I totally agree with jellybean,we'll be happy battling for door to door for 12 or 18th, while the top three or four have lapped us. The racing will be in the back of the pack. My only remaining question is why does NPS regularly have 25-30 minis,if their rules are so bad.

You know,I can hardly wait to meet and talk with all you guys. The excitement and diversity of just this discussion alone has shown me how colorful but yet friendly racing will be. Like the wellworn cliche,it's not whether you win or lose.

Well it is good to have a healthy debate like this. No matter what rule it is there will always be someone who does not agree. M40 had the same problem with the rules last season. they started out with a set of rules, changed them after a few weeks hopeing to attract more cars while alienating another group of cars. I am partial to opening up the rules and going racing. Keep the aluminum Esslinger motors out, but strap on our Hoosier tires put race parts in the race cars and go racing. I do not have a big budget by any means, but I will be out there mixing it up with the fast guys. Remember, heat races you generally race with cars of the same caliber as yours. A win is a win, and feels great. If you want to run in a completely stock class FWD is an option. You can have a whole car for less than $1000. Plus they are entertaining to watch. Let's go racing!

sweetcornexpress, what makes you think he doesnt have a "racing" clutch. Angola's is the only track in the area that didnt allow racing clutches, im not going to travel all the way to newparis to race its a long ways from fort wayne. The rules were new and I didnt know about any rules metting because i wasnt checking the website or i would have been up there to debate it. Guys if you are looking for a racing clutch there is one on ebay now.
