|
|
I had this info passed onto me about Fred Elkins and I thought I'd share it with you:
Fred Elkins won Championships At Angola Motor Speedway
in 1971, 1972, 1976, 1979, 1988, 1998, and 2000.
Fred Elkins won the Bryan Motor Speedway Late Model
Championship in 1975 ahead of Moose Myers followed by
Mike Kline and John Elkins.
He may have won more Championships as I am sure he also
won a Championship at Avilla. I can only substantiate the
Championships mentioned above.
Fred has never been concerned with
accolades he just wanted to race!!

| I WISH THAT FRED WAS STILL AS COMPETETIVE AS HE ONCE WAS BUT FOR BEING IN HIS MIDDLE SIXTIES HE DOESNT DO TO BAD.. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE DIFFERENCE IN HORSEPOWER FROM WHEN FRED FIRST STARTED RACING COMPARED TO WHAT HE DRIVES NOW.. THAT WOULD TAKE SOME ADJUSTING..

Ya I guess everyone slows down to a certain extent when you get that age. But hey you're only as young as ya feel right.

Lloyd Gearhart was the headliner for this article in 1978, and Fred Elkins won the Late Model Championship as well.

Looking toward the bottom of the article:
How about that "Steuben 500" starting 33 cars with 11 rows and three wide. The same format as the Indianapolis 500 race. Sounds like a formula for a big crash.
