Modified racer Dean Best passed away on July 22nd of 2007, but he will long be remembered with the help of the Northeastern Indiana Racing Museum located within the walls of the Kruse Victory WWII / Automobile & Carriage Museum near Auburn,IN.
Thanks to Dean's Family his car went on display at the museum the Thursday before Labor Day Weekend. We also have Dean's complete racing outfit including helmet, suit, and shoes that we will be putting in a display case.
Deans racing accomplishments and a photo will also be posted soon on a board that will sit near the car.
This is a first for a local Modified racer from the Tri-State area to have his car sitting with cars that have raced at the Indianapolis 500, NASCAR and in Drag Racing.
we are looking for more local racing artifacts to be loaned or donated to the museum. It would be great if we could get an outlaw bodied Super Late Model from one of the local veteran racers who race at Angola Motor Speedway to put on display. A Sprint car would also be a fantastic addition to the museum. We are covering ,Angola, Baer Field , Plymouth, New Paris and also any former tracks that used to exist in Northern Indiana such as Avilla and Fort Wayne Speedway's. I know of some others that I have heard about such as The Pleasant Lake Speedway and a speedway that used to be located on State Hwy 20 near the Ohio State Line that was behind the former Roundup restaurant before the Toll Road was built, but only you the racers out there have this history .
An Autographed helmet that once belonged to Sprint Car Legend "Hurrin" Hank Lower also is one of our newest additions, Thanks to local racer and car owner Todd Gearhart.
We have several complete racing outfits that we will be putting on display soon.
If You have some local racing artifacts you'd like to share with the rest of the world You can contact me(Kevin Allgire) at 260-316-0966 or at ksplace1@verizon.net
